Default locales

Language codes are sometimes formatted differently, according to the application. QA Distiller automatically matches unrecognised language codes based on the following conditions:

  • If the language code in the file only contains a language identifier without country and there is only one possible match in QA Distiller's list containing both a language and country code.
QA Distiller automatically matches the language code IT to IT-IT if IT-IT is the only one in the list.
  • If the language code in the file only contains a language identifier without country code and there are multiple possible matches in QA Distiller's list, you will get an alert in the error list. QA Distiller does not match the language codes automatically, but in this case you can set one of the possible matches as the default locale for language codes without country code.

QA Distiller does not automatically match the language code FR because there are multiple possible matches in the list: FR-BE, FR-CA, FR-CH, FR-FR, FR-LU. In this case, you can select one of these locales, let's say FR-FR, via File > Setup > Language Codes and click Make default. If you then reprocess your file with FR as language code, QA Distiller automatically matches to FR-FR because that is the default locale.

  • If the language code in the file contains a language identifier and country code and there is only one possible match in QA Distiller's list containing only a language code.

QA Distiller automatically matches the language code JA-JP to JA if JA is the only one in the list.

  • If the language code in the file contains a language identifier and country code and there are multiple possible matches in QA Distiller's list, you will get an alert in the error list. QA Distiller does not match the language codes automatically, but in this case you can create a new language code by cloning an existing one via File > Setup > Language Codes > Add.

Cloning an existing language also clones the character set from the cloned language to the new language.
